The Mojito is one of the most famous rum-based cocktails, originating in Cuba in the early 16th century. It was first consumed as a medicinal drink to cure dysentery and scurvy, but over time, it evolved into a refreshing beverage loved for its minty, citrusy flavors. Popularized by iconic figures like Ernest Hemingway, the Mojito became a symbol of relaxation, tropical settings, and good times. Today, it remains a go-to cocktail for those looking to enjoy a light, refreshing drink that’s both flavorful and easy to make.

The Mojito’s combination of fresh mint, lime, and white rum makes it a refreshing choice for any occasion. Its natural ingredients give it a crisp and clean taste, while the sweetness of the sugar helps to balance the sharpness of the lime and rum.

Mojito Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum

  • 1 oz lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (or 1 tbsp sugar)

  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves

  • Club soda (to top off)

  • Ice cubes

  • Mint sprig and lime wedge (for garnish)

Directions

  • Muddle the mint leaves and simple syrup (or sugar) in a glass to release the mint’s oils.
  • Add lime juice and white rum, then fill the glass with ice.
  • Top with club soda and stir gently.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge.

Tasting Notes

The Mojito presents a refreshing combination of citrus and mint, with the rum adding a subtle kick. The fresh mint and lime hit the nose first, followed by a cool, crisp sensation on the palate.
