Classic Margarita Recipe

The Margarita is one of the most iconic cocktails, representing the spirit of celebration and relaxation. Its roots trace back to Mexico, where it’s believed to have originated in the 1930s or 1940s. Although there are various legends surrounding its creation, the most popular story attributes it to a bartender in Tijuana or Baja California. The cocktail quickly gained fame for its refreshing combination of flavors—tequila, lime, and triple sec—making it a favorite among both locals and tourists seeking a taste of Mexico’s vibrant culture.

Over the decades, the Margarita has evolved into countless variations, but its classic form remains unchanged, highlighting the natural flavors of tequila and citrus. It’s a versatile drink, enjoyed on the rocks, blended, or straight up. What makes the Margarita unique is its ability to balance the robust, earthy notes of tequila with the zesty acidity of lime and the sweetness of triple sec, creating a perfect harmony of flavors that appeals to a wide range of palates.

Classic Margarita Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila

  • 1 oz lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1 oz triple sec (or orange liqueur)

  • Salt (for rimming the glass)

  • Lime wedge (for garnish)

  • Ice cubes

Directions

  • Rim a glass with salt by running a lime wedge around the edge and dipping it into a plate of salt.
  • In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, lime juice, and triple sec.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim.

    Tasting Notes

The Classic Margarita offers a vibrant burst of fresh lime on the nose, with hints of orange from the triple sec. On the palate, the tequila’s earthy and slightly peppery notes are immediately noticeable, balanced by the tangy lime and the subtle sweetness of the liqueur. The salted rim provides an extra layer of flavor, enhancing the cocktail’s complexity. The finish is crisp and refreshing, with a lingering warmth from the tequila and a zesty citrus aftertaste.

    Enjoy your Classic Margarita!
